At the 5th CEFE Panorama Cafe we had the pleasure of welcoming Mustafa Erdogan. Passionate expert on experiential learning, President of DeM Experiential Training Centre, founder of an International Experiential Learning Network, trainer and friend of the CEFE family.
“Experiential learning is not learning by doing! Experiential learning is learning by feeling, reflecting, thinking, and doing.” With this phrase, he started his presentation and the short input on the theory behind Experiential Learning.
Before he could get to the profile of an educator, we looked at the basics of Experiential Learning:
David A. KOLB, the founder of experiential learning theory, defines learning “as a process in which experience is transformed into knowledge.” David Kolb explains how learning initially takes place based on experience and is a constantly progressive process. He divides his “learning circle” into four learning types and phases.

The task of an educator is to accompany the learner through these phases in appropriate roles. This results in a profile of 4 roles:
“You must know how you learn to understand how you teach”. Mustafa points out how important it is for an educator first to understand one’s learning behaviour, as this largely influences teaching. In this case, however, it is essential that all four profile areas are covered.
