After visiting the Mekong Delta in Vietnam in December 2018, three friends decided to no longer watch plastic entering the oceans but to take action. Four months later they founded with Plastic Fischer the first company worldwide to tackle marine plastic pollution strategically in rivers. Two of the Founders moved to Indonesia two months later to develop low-cost solutions to stop and collect plastic before it ends up in the oceans forever.
The company’s philosophy is to develop low-tech (the opposite of high-tech) solutions, made from locally available materials. With this, Plastic Fischer ensures high scalability, quick deployment and repair. Avoiding imports saves time, money and Carbon emissions. Instead of using fully automated systems the pickup and sorting of the material is getting done manually. It might not be as fancy as solar-panel-powered technology made in Europe, but it creates jobs and involves the local communities that become part of the solution.
Plastic Fischer is a social business that has published the construction manual of their proven technology free and open-source on their homepage to make it for everyone as easy as possible to take action themselves.
To finance the operations in India, Indonesia and Vietnam and allow scaling within these countries and beyond, Plastic Fischer offers two services for businesses and organisations to give them an opportunity to be part of the solution.
Companies that use plastic in their supply chain can contribute to solving global marine plastic pollution by financing Plastic Fischer’s operations per ton of plastic collected and processed. The created impact is verified and certified by a third party. With this model, plastic is collected that otherwise would have ended up in the oceans and threaten the marine ecosystem. Customers, employees and shareholders will appreciate the company’s efforts that go beyond their mandatory duties and show that the company cares about the environment.
Plastic Fischer Club:
Organisations that don’t use tons of plastic also show interest in supporting the solution of the global plastic crisis. These companies can join the Plastic Fischer Club and brand their products and website with the exclusive logo. For a monthly membership fee, they become part of a sustainability orientated network and receive corporate benefits from other club members.
